Pro 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
As we come into a new year, many will be facing significant changes in the year ahead. For others, life will continue as it has done before. But this verse reminds us that whether we face upheaval or the continued steady progress of life, the one thing we must not do, is to leave God out of our considerations. It is as important when things are changing, as when things remain the same.
When we are presented with new opportunities or new challenges, it is easy to base our decision on the natural benefit we expect to receive. But we must always consider the Lord in any consideration that we make and bring every decision to Him. He may confirm the logical choice, but He may also bring a check to a natural course of action, and only later will we see His wisdom in His leading us in a different direction.
Equally important, is to also seek God when we do not foresee any major change in our lives. It may be that God wants us to continue as before, but we should also be open to God taking our lives in a different direction. Are we open to the possibility that God wants to do something very different with us?
In both of these situations, there are several key things to remember:
- Just because something seems right to us, does not necessarily mean that it is what God wants for us right now.
- It is crucial that we bring everything to Him, not just the changes, but the steady continuing of life. That’s what ‘acknowledge’ means, let Him have his place in everything we do.
- Lastly, we can have this absolutely certainty, that if we fulfill our part of trusting Him and acknowledging Him, He will direct our paths. We will know what the right thing to do is, and He will provide the guidance and direction we need.
